Personal Comments/Philosophy:

Being a faculty member in the Research Family Medicine Residency program allows me to have a wonderful balance of both teaching and clinical work in my professional life.  In addition to my faculty position, I also have a private practice here in the Kansas City area.  My areas of interest and expertise include:  trauma, managing depression and anxiety, eating disorders, identity development, and understanding the role of family in illness and treatment.

My teaching style mirrors my clinical approach to therapy in many ways.  It is important to me to bring the sense of humor, intentionality, openness, and collaborative stance that I use in the therapy setting to my teaching role as I train residents.  I apply a developmental model as I teach, recognizing that residents need different approaches from faculty as they move through the milestones of their residency.   My ultimate hope as a Behavioral Science Faculty member is to help residents develop a sophisticated understanding of their patients and themselves, as physicians.

Hobbies/Other Interests:

When I’m not at work, you can usually find me exploring the KC area and checking out new restaurants, running (I’ve done a couple half marathons in the past), or playing with my new puppy.
